Great place to take family, volunteers are knowledgeable and eager to share the history of the brigade. Drinks and homemade cakes available plus a small counter to buy souvenirs. Entry is free !!!
See a great collection of fire service engines and all the equipment used by firefighters from the earliest days of fire brigades. Lots of very knowledgeable ex firefighters are on hand to regale you with tales from their career.
This is a really cool little Museum to the Greater Manchester Fire Service. There's a number of old fire engines and pumps in the yard that the staff let my nephew sit on, which obviously made his day. Inside the staff took us around a number of exhibitions showing old breathing apparatus and uniforms as well little trinkets. They were all very knowledgeable. In addition, there were refreshments available although not a huge range, and a small gift stall. I recommend it for a nice hour diversion with or without kids!
Not really been apart from when it was briefly used as Rochdale's driving test centre. Don't see why they can't use it as a fire station... But I'm sure it would make a brilliant fire service history museum. The building even seems to have a watch "tower" like thing on top. I wonder how old it actually is?
